Clare's Irish regiment coat c.1745

Clare's Irish regiment coat c.1745

Coat of Irish regiment of Clare's in French service. The peculiar shape of the cuffs has been reconstructed from period descriptions, an image from Gudenus c.1735, and a very similar cuff  that features in one of the four French coats of c.1690 preserved in  Stockholm's Arrmémuseum.

This pattern of coat can also be made for all other Irish or Swiss regiments in French service, all of them had madder red with various coloured facings (the Swiss mostly blue,). Wholly lined with wool baize ("cadis"), domed buttons of pewter or brass. As for all French coats, the real pockets are hidden in the pleats (see pic).

Available in standard sizes or made to measure.
