French marine officer 1792 habit

French marine officer 1792 habit

French marine officer "habit" according to the decree of 1792. Reconstructed from the text of the regulation and by comparison with other extnt officers' coats of the same period. It still features the real pleats at the side vents, and the skirts are left open. Made of fine blue cloth lined with red wool twill serge, sewn with an overcast stitch so as to make a fine red piping all along the edges, the original way of making a piping which was still used e.g. in the Swiss Guard undress coat preserved in Geneva. Available only to measure.  The gold epaulettes can be bought seperately.
