French Zouave vest 1845-1871

French Zouave vest or "gilet" to be worn under the jacket or "bolero", which can be purchased seperately. Copied from an original one, and strictly following the description and plates of the regulations issued during this period, notably in 1860 (see plate in the above pic).
The vest is made from blue broadcloth trimmed with red wool braid, the back and lining of "cretonne de coton", it fastens at the side and shoulder with buttons and cloth straps.
