Garde de la Prevoté de l'Hotel du Roy
Complete dress of the Garde de la Prevoté de l'Hotel du Roy, a magnificent attire worn on ceremonial occasions by this unit, which functioned as a police force within the royal palaces and estates. Painstakingly reconstructed from period pictorial sources, this complete uniform comprises:
coat, waistcoat, breeches, stockings, shoes, shirt, neckstock, hat, waistbelt, and the wonderfully embroidered "hoqueton" or coat-of-arms.
The blue coat and red waistcoat worn under the coat-of-arms are themselves profusely trimmed with gold braid. A truly splendid attire, epitomizing the richness and might of the French monarchy of the 18th century.
